Saugerties Lighthouse

A landmark beacon on the Hudson River, the Saugerties Lighthouse is a venerable red-brick lighthouse built in 1869 at the mouth of the Esopus Creek. The Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy maintains the lighthouse and adjacent lands for the enjoyment of the public. The restored lighthouse offers overnight Bed & Breakfast accommodations, public tours and special events. Furnished as it may have looked in the early 20th century, the Lighthouse contains a small museum, gift shop, parlor, kitchen, keepers quarters,  and two guest bedrooms. The operational light-tower offers a panoramic view of the Hudson River with the Catskill Mountains to the west and Magdalen and Cruger Islands to the south. Experience a bygone era. Enjoy swimming, picnicking and bird-watching. The Lighthouse can be reached by boat or via the half mile nature trail at the end of Lighthouse Drive in the village of Saugerties, New York.

Bed & Breakfast
Step back in time and get a taste of life as a turn-of-the-century lighthouse keeper. Restored to its former glory, the Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast is a unique place to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Hudson River Valley. It is open Thursday through Sunday nights year-round except February. Popular summertime activities at the lighthouse include canoeing, kayaking, fishing, wading and swimming. Other activities include bird-watching, reading, photography, and relaxing by the riverside. There is no air-conditioning. It is heated in wintertime. Surrounded by the river on a remote shoal, the Lighthouse is reached by walking a gentle half-mile trail.

Rooms
There are two second floor bedrooms each with a double-bed. The West Room has windows facing south down the Hudson River and west towards the Catskills. The East Room, the larger of the two rooms, has windows looking east onto the river.

In addition to the double beds, we have two cots available to accommodate additional guests and children in the East Room (furnished upon request).

Shared Bathroom Facilities
The first floor bathroom is shared by everyone staying in the lighthouse. It contains a sink and a shower with hot and cold running water. A composting toilet is utilized because the lighthouse is located far from the municipal sewage system. Instructions for its use are provided upon arrival.

Meals
Breakfast is provided for overnight guests. For other meals, you can dine at an area restaurant or carry food to the lighthouse. To prepare a meal at the lighthouse, the kitchen is available for use as well as our outdoor barbecue grill. The adjacent island is a pleasant place to enjoy a picnic meal. For those wishing to eat in town, select from a variety of local restaurants that range from fast food to elegant fare. See our online list of Places to Eat.

What to bring
Linens, towels, wash cloths and soap are provided. Shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner are provided from a dispensor in the shower.

Most cell phones get service at the lighthouse, and a telephone is available for emergencies. Free WiFi available. A video projector in the museum is equipped for viewing DVDs.

Unless you arrive by personal boat, you will need to carry your belongings along the 1/2 mile trail to the lighthouse. For the ease of transport, travel light and pack your belongings in a small backpack or overnight bag.
