The Red Fox Inn is part Inn and part Tavern. The Tavern is the oldest tavern in Virginia and is the 6th oldest tavern in the United States. This historical inn is gem is located in the quaint village of Middleburg. Established in 1728, the four story fieldstone Inn and Tavern has been inspired by four centuries of Virginia Hunt Country tradition and embodies the Piedmont’s cultural heritage.



Middleburg is about an hour from Washington, DC. and is a perfect getaway destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. While staying with at the in, guest can tour local wineries, attend local horse events, browse Middleburg's many fine boutiques, antique shops and galleries, explore the Shenandoah Valley or simply take a drive in the country past land-grant estates and antebellum houses. Enjoy the heart of Virginia’s famed Hunt and Wine Country, then have a pint in the tavern before a good night's sleep.

Romantic Hunt Country Accommodations
The Red Fox Inn is in the heart of Middleburg. You can relax in one of our fifteen guest rooms. This central location allows guests to tour local wineries, attend horse shows, steeplechases and polo matches, explore the Shenandoah Valley, and browse Middle­burg’s many fine boutiques, antique shops and galleries.

The Red Fox Inn complex is composed of several of buildings and cottages that house our guest rooms. All of our buildings are adjoined by the main parking area. The main building houses the Tavern and event space on the first and second floors and has six guest rooms located on the third and fourth floors. The Stray Fox building is the most secluded of our buildings and is composed of seven rooms, five on the first floor and two on the second floor. The Night Fox building is located behind the main building and has one suite on the second floor. The 12 East building overlooks Washington Street, provides the easiest access to shops and has two rooms on the second floor.

The Historic Tavern
The Tavern at the Red Fox Inn welcomes Middle­burg locals and travelers alike to enjoy hearty breakfasts, casual lunches and inti­mate candlelight dinners in the traditional Vir­ginia style. Oak tables, handcrafted furnishings, stone fire­places, hand-hewn ceiling beams and thick fieldstone walls create an intimate dining at­mosphere any time of day.
